Contingency plan eases passenger backlog

The Steam Packet Company says the vast majority of those left stranded by Tuesday night's ferry cancellations (6 June) have been returned to the UK.

Around 540 passengers were forced to spend an extra night on the Island when the Ben my Chree's evening sailing to Heysham was called off due to adverse weather there.

With all sailings on Wednesday and Thursday fully booked, the company's stand-by vessel MV Arrow carried extra freight to free-up space for passengers on Wednesday's ferry crossings.

All passengers in Heysham were re booked on Douglas-bound ferries by Wednesday afternoon. 

The move has eased the backlog, and Packet bosses say the additional crossing penciled in for Thursday night, may not now be needed.
