Multi-faceted approach needed to alcohol problem

Report on availability in supermarkets out next year

The Minister for Health and Social Care says a multi-faceted approach is needed to tackle the problems caused by alcohol abuse.

Last week saw Howard Quayle make a successful amendment to a Tynwald proposal calling for restrictions on cut-price alcohol.

A report into the availability of alcohol in supermarkets will be compiled for next year.

It's expected to make recommendations such as minimum pricing, higher licence costs for vendors and a ban on loss-leading sales techniques.

But Minister Quayle believes it's more than just an economic problem:
