New meat plant operating company set to meet

Plant will better serve Island needs, says DEFA minister

The environment, food and agriculture minister says there is a bright future for the meat plant on the Island.

New operator Isle of Man Meat Company will hold its first meeting on Thursday to plan how the Tromode facility will better serve the needs of the Manx public.

Led by DEFA with representatives of the Fatstock Marketing Association, industry and commerce, Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Geoffrey Boot says the new structure will be more commercially focused, providing better returns for farmers and less strain on the taxpayer.

On Friday, representatives from all levels of the farming industry will then meet the operators to discuss a new purchasing process.
