New plans due for meat plant

Annual subvention will be required

The Isle of Man’s meat plant will remain open for business despite needing significant taxpayer support, a government minister has vowed.

Detailed plans are due to be announced before the end of the year setting out an effective way forward for the Tromode facility.

The plant, which slaughters cattle, sheep and pigs from local farms, is currently run by Isle of Man Meats and requires an annual subvention.

DEFA Minister Geoffrey Boot says a new business solution is being worked on with a commercial board and improved pricing for farmers.
