New primary school plans unveiled

The Department of Education wants to build a new Primary School on the old Nobles Hospital site.

It would replace the current Ballacloan and Fairfield schools which are now both well over 100 years old and deemed no longer fit for modern educational needs.

It's hoped the 350 capacity school could come on stream by September 2015.

At this month's sitting of Tynwald, Education Minister Anne Craine will seek approval to spend £928,000 for the first phase of the project, which includes demolition of some of the old hospital buildings and decontamination of the site.

She says the project has already been in the pipeline for several years before reaching this stage and the £11 million wouldn't be required all at once.
