Incurable dog disease now in Northern England and Ireland
The Isle of Man remains free of the potentially fatal dog disease, Alabama Rot, though cases have now been recorded in the North-west of England and Northern Ireland.
The disease, which originated in the US, in the early 1980s was first discovered in the UK in 2012. In recent times case numbers have risen though it remains relatively rare.
It damages the blood vessels in the skin and kidneys, which causes visible sores on the skin and can lead to severe organ dysfunction and ultimately kidney failure.
