No Manx women affected by implant scare?

It looks as if no women in the Isle of Man have received the breast implants which are causing major concerns in France, the United Kingdom and other countries.

The PIP implants have sparked a health scare after reports that some have ruptured.

There have been calls for women to have them removed free of charge, but many health authorities have said that will only be done if there are genuine health reasons, and in many cases the cost of replacing them would not be covered.

The Department of Health has told Manx Radio that to its knowledge no NHS or private patients treated on the Island, or referred to the United Kingdom, have received the French-made implants.

However, health officials are continuing to monitor developments closely and say that in the unlikely event of any Manx patients being identified as having received them, they are likely to follow advice and guidance issued by the UK Department of Health.
