Not guilty pleas from trio accused of possessing offensive weapons

Accused of having tyre iron and scaffolding poles during incident in August

Three men from Douglas will stand trial after being accused of affray and possessing offensive weapons.

Brian Paul Wootton, who is 45 and from Demesne Road, appeared at Douglas Courthouse where he entered not guilty pleas to the offences.

He was joined in the dock by 27-year-old Reece James Thompson, of Hazel Crescent, and 26-year-old Lewis Keenan Thompson of Farvane Park.

They also denied committing the offences which are said to have taken place on Demesne Road on the morning of 29 August.

Committal – where the case is elevated to the Court of General Gaol Delivery – will take place on 9 November; the trio has been bailed until that date.

Update: On 9 November Mr Thompson and Mr Thompson were committed to stand trial at the Court of General Gaol Delivery. They will next appear before that court on a date to be set. Bail continues.

Mr Wootton's attendance was excused due to illness. Committal proceedings for him are expected to take place on 23 November instead.
