Beehive and Shelleigh plan to become one unit
Two nurseries in Onchan have applied for planning permission to merge, creating one unit looking after more than 120 children.
The Beehive and Shelleigh nurseries are next door to each other on Briarfield Avenue and are registered with the Department of Health and Social Care to look after a total of 120 youngsters.
In their application, nursery managers acknowledge problems with parking in the area, saying in the past residents have rung the police because people have parked on the road.
But they say they hope to tackle those difficulties through better policies for staff and marking out a proper car park.
The Beehive nursery also says it’s received complaints about noise in the past – and previous planning applications have been turned down because of it.
But in the application, the owners say they wouldn’t make any changes to the way either facility is used and so wouldn’t plan to make any extra noise.
And they say by combining the two sites, they could run a more efficient business in a high-demand area.
