Disruption at Ronaldsway airport following incident with light aircraft

Passengers told to expect disruption as flights are delayed or cancelled

UPDATE at 8:20pm: Both runways are now open for operation. Flights are expected to resume shortly. Ronaldsway Airport has released a statement on social media saying: "We sincerely appreciate your patience and cooperation during this challenging time. Thank you for your understanding.

"We can confirm that there have been no injuries reported as a result of this incident."

UPDATE at 6.05pm: Ronaldsway airport has told Manx Radio the light aircraft lost its undercarriage and was forced to land on the grass of the main runway.  Machinery is onsite attempting to move the aircraft.  The shorter runway remains operational and some flights can proceed.  However, those expecting to be leaving the Isle of Man are being told to expect some disruption and to check for updates with their respective airline.

UPDATE at 5:12pm: We understand passengers have been told only one person was onboard the plane and they are reported to be 'safe and well'. Further updates for those waiting to depart are expected in the next half hour.

UPDATE at 4.24pm: Ronaldsway airport has confirmed its runway is temporarily closed due to an ongoing incident involving a small general aviation aircraft.  Officials are understood to be working to resolve the situation.  The public are being asked to avoid speculating.

We're receiving reports that emergency services are currently attending an incident at the Isle of Man Airport.

Images and video footage seen by Manx Radio show airport personnel beside what looks to be a small private plane on the runway but it's not clear exactly what's happening.

The next flights due to arrive on the Island are currently circling Manx airspace and several flights are now delayed.
