Overnight Heysham crossing takes almost seven hours

Manxman docked into Lancashire four hours late

Passengers on the crossing to Heysham overnight were sailing for the best part of seven hours.

Despite being scheduled to depart Douglas at 7:45pm, the Manxman left port shortly after 9pm.

It eventually docked in Lancashire at 3:50am, four hours later than scheduled.

The delayed 2:45am return journey is due to get underway at 7am.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company says: "The late arrival into Heysham created a conflict with another company's schedule and there were insufficient numbers of dockers to load both vessels at once."

"For context, the dockers in Heysham work for the port, not IOMSPC as in Douglas. We were able to load passengers first to ensure they could get some rest, but backloading of freight took much longer than anticipated. We'll update on schedules as the day progresses."

Meanwhile, this morning's Heysham crossing has been cancelled due to 'a deterioration in the weather forecast'.

If you are due to sail later tonight, tomorrow or Saturday - be aware the schedule has been altered due to 'increased siltation' in Heysham port.
