Parish Walk steps into motion this morning

Peel finishers have until 6pm this evening

85 miles, 17 churches in 24 hours - can they do it? The Manx Telecom Parish Walk steps into motion at 8 o clock this morning from the National Sports Centre.

They'll be sporting t-shirts paying respect to walk winner, Murray Lambden, who sadly lost his life this year - he championed the event, and acted as its statistician.

Richard Gerrard has won the race for the last three years.

He holds the overall record for completing the race in 14 hours, 40 minutes and eight seconds - and says he's determined to beat that time this year.

Competitors start in Douglas, and travel through Santon, Malew, Rushen, Peel, Kirk Michael, Ballaugh, Jurby, Bride, Andreas, Lezayre, Maughold, Lonan, and on to the finish line - Peel finishers have until 6pm this evening to hit the checkpoint.

Roads closed across the Island to accommodate walkers include; the A1 from Union Mills to Crosby, Cleaynagh Road, Orrisdale Road, and Derby Road in Peel.

Drivers are asked to take particular care on our roads today.
