MHK looks into why there's no log

The Isle of Man Constabulary doesn't record any loss of evidence intended to be produced for court cases.

The news was made public after an MHK asked Minister for Home Affairs Bill Malarkey in the House of Keys how many items were lost over a five-year period, and at what cost.

Officers in the department contacted him by phone to say official procedure exists, before the written answer was released (15 March).

The question was prompted by reports of serious losses of evidence in the UK which - in some force areas - run into the thousands.
