Public asked to avoid power station after panels fail

Ongoing 'safety operation' in Pulrose

Two external glass panels on Pulrose Power Station have failed.

Members of the public are being asked to avoid the area due to an ongoing ‘safety operation’.

Pulrose Road will be closed today (14 July) between 1.15pm and 2.45pm.

Access to Middle River Industrial Estate and The Bowl is still possible.

Police and the Department of Infrastructure attended the area last night due to fragments of debris spilling beyond the power station boundary.

Manx Utilities says the power station has an internal and external glass wall and the inner wall is not impacted therefore it says the integrity of the building is not affected.

It says it does not know why the panels have failed but suspects it may be due to a minor defect in one of the panels that has caused an adjacent one to fail.
