34-year-old admits trying to bring Class B drug to Island
A Bournemouth man has appeared at Douglas Courthouse after being caught trying to bring 21 kilos of cannabis to the Isle of Man.
Ali Asker Kilic, of St Winifreds Road, admitted producing the drug and possessing it with intent to supply.
The 34-year-old was stopped at the Sea Terminal on 31 August after sailing to the Island from Liverpool.
Police searched his Mercedes van after becoming suspicious of his reason for visiting – they found a hidden ‘after-market’ storage compartment underneath the front three seats.
Inside was cannabis which had a street value of up to £417,000.
Kilic was arrested and told officers it was a ‘surprise’ to him that his van contained drugs; he wouldn’t disclose who asked him to make the journey saying he had concerns for the safety of his family.
He'll be sentenced at the Court of General Gaol Delivery and will next appear there on 22 September; there was no application for bail and he was remanded at the Isle of Man Prison.
Update: Kilic will be sentenced at the Court of General Gaol Delivery on 10 November.
