Remand for Merseyside man accused of bringing drugs to the Island

Bail appeal on 'humanitarian grounds’ refused

A Merseyside man accused of bringing drugs to the Island has been remanded at the Isle of Man Prison after a failed bail attempt on ‘humanitarian grounds’.

Daniel Graham Moody, of Meadowfield Close, appeared at Douglas Courthouse yesterday (18 April).

The 35-year-old has been charged with two offences of being concerned in the production of cocaine and cannabis on or about 6 June last year.

Police allege the kilo of cocaine had a street value of £100,000 – the four kilos of cannabis was valued at £78,000.

The prosecutor told the court the allegations were ‘extremely serious’ alleging that Mr Moody is part an ‘organised crime syndicate’.

Applying for bail the duty advocate told the court Mr Moody was making a ‘plea for mercy’ whilst the ‘complex and multi-handed matter’ was progressed.

This, he said, was due to the fact his terminally ill mother was being cared for by his teenager daughter in his absence; a bail application the prosecutor described as ‘unrealistic’.

Acknowledging his ‘difficult’ family circumstances High Bailiff Jayne Hughes refused to grant bail and remanded him at the Isle of Man Prison until his next court appearance on 25 April.

Two other men – who are both 23 – also appeared at Douglas Courthouse charged with the same offences.

Matthew James Woods, of Saddle Road in Douglas, and Leroy Stephen Mcharrie, of Nursery Avenue in Onchan, were both remanded at the prison until their next appearance.
