Reminder to register your baby before returning to the Island

Manx Care's plea to parents who give birth in UK

Parents on the Isle of Man are being reminded to register their babies before returning to the Island if they are born in the United Kingdom.

Manx Care says some patients have been informed by clinicians there that they will be able to register their child’s birth by declaration once they return home.

However this is not the case.

Some patients, depending on their medical condition, are required to attend a UK hospital either to receive treatment or to give birth.

Those whose babies are not born on the Island are being asked to make sure they register their baby before returning home as otherwise they'll have to return to the UK within six weeks of their baby’s birth in order to complete their registration.

In the case of married couples either parent can attend to register the birth.

For unmarried couples who would like the father’s name to be on the birth certificate both the mother and father must attend to register the birth.
