Responsibility for port security and coastguard could move to DHA

Chief officer admits the move would put an extra burden on policy resources

Port security and responsibility for the coastguard could move to the Department of Home Affairs.

It's one of the options being looked at as part of the review into the Department of Infrastructure, according to a member of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs and Justice Committee.

Middle MHK Stu Peters, who's also a political member of the DoI, asked the chief officer of the DHA how the move would impact the department's budget.

Dan Davies says the funds for running the service would also transfer from infrastructure to home affairs, but it could stretch the DHA's policy resources:

Infrastructure Minister Tim Crookall is due to give an update on work to reform his department at this month's sitting of Tynwald.
