Peel business closed without fulfilling salaries
A former Peel restaurateur has been ordered to pay nearly £10,700 to two former staff members.
Dining by Chris Franklin Ltd unlawfully deducted pay and frequently failed to provide payslips.
Callan Reed and Nicole Crawley took the company to an employment and equality tribunal, earlier this month, seeking compensation.
The restaurant, in Peel, closed its doors for business in May following 'extremely difficult trading conditions' which Mr Franklin said made the business 'impossible to continue'.
Neither Mr Reed nor Miss Crawley were paid their salary for their final month of work.
Additionally Mr Reed was not paid for his period of notice and he also had holiday due to him; Miss Crawley had previously given her notice and had not claimed an award for that period.
The tribunal found that neither Mr Reed nor Miss Crawley received payslips on time 'and too often, not at all'.
Despite extensions being granted for Mr Franklin to respond to the allegations he did not do so; and he did not attend the hearing.
The tribunal was provided witness statements, and exhibited documentation, substantiating the complainant's losses and both supplemented that evidence with their testimony at the hearing.
Tribunal chairman Douglas Stewart found in favour of the two former employees awarding Mr Reed £6,570.44 and Miss Crawley £4,120.
