Council buys site from Balfour Beatty

Flights between the Isle of Man and Blackpool could begin again, as the Lancashire airport returns to public ownership.

Blackpool Council has announced it has purchased the site from owners Balfour Beatty in a £4.25 million deal.

The authority previously owned the airport up until 2004, after which it fell into persistent financial trouble.

CityWing operated services from Ronaldsway until it went into liquidation in March.

Blackpool Council Leader Simon Blackburn says new deals are already being evaluated.
