48-year-old changes plea before trial
A man’s been banned from the roads after crashing into another car and driving off without checking whether its occupants were injured.
Forty-eight-year-old Rikki Goodall of Ashberry Avenue in Douglas appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.
He’d initially denied dangerous driving but changed his plea before a trial was due to take place.
Prosecution advocate Roger Kane told the hearing Goodall had been driving his Kia along the Creg ny Baa Back Road on 6 February last year.
A motorist coming the other way tried to avoid a head-on crash and swerved out of the way, but Goodall still hit the car.
But instead of stopping or reporting the accident, he made off and denied any wrongdoing when he was later arrested.
The court heard Goodall’s mother had been taken to hospital and he was rushing to the home of a family friend when the incident happened.
He was ordered to carry out 120 hours of community service and banned from driving for a year.
Mrs Hughes also ordered him to pay £300 towards prosecution costs.
