Route changes are 'out of the airport's control'

Airport Director challenges social media speculation

Social media speculation that easyJet should have given more notice of its plan to shelve a number of flights to and from the Island has been challenged.

Airport director Gary Cobb says whilst the airline’s decision to cut or change a number of services is frustrating for passengers, it’s not within the airport’s control.

He cited issues across the air network in Europe for ongoing challenges faced by Manxies.

Yesterday (July 10), easyJet suggested the impact of air traffic control strikes in Europe and the war in Ukraine are partly to blame for 1,700 flights being cancelled.

The airline's decision - taking place during the summer holiday season - is expected to affect up to 180,000 customers.

It's apologised, but says 95 per cent of travellers will be booked onto another flight, with everyone else being offered a refund.

Here on the Isle of Man, Mr Cobb says we feel the impact more here of major changes because of the nature of our air travel, and maintains not all delays at Ronaldsway are due to the current air traffic control restrictions:
