"Safe staffing saves lives!"

Nurses gather outside Noble's Hospital as 12-hour walkout gets underway

In the last hour members of the Royal College of Nursing have begun 12 hours of strike action in a row over pay and staffing levels.

"We're striking because our patients are dying."

Manx Radio's Chanelle Sukhoo has been at the picket line speaking to Maggy Heaton, an RCN representative for the North West and Isle of Man, who says there's no justification for the Island's police being granted a higher pay award than nurses.

She also highlighted disparity in the pay between the professions - highlighting that in the UK police officers are paid more than nursing staff:

"Our patients deserve much better than exhausted, depressed, anxious staff looking after them."

Clare Green, Ward Sister at Noble's Hospital and the RCN Isle of Man secretary, describes the feeling amongst nurses on the Island:

The walkout will last until 8pm.

Manx Care says more than 100 face to face outpatient appointments have been cancelled as a result, while Ramsey's Minor Injuries Unit will close for the day.

You can find a full list of all the changes HERE.

Those with appointments booked for today who haven't been told that their appointment is cancelled are asked to attend as normal.

Manx Care is urging the public to check its social media pages for any last-minute changes to today's services.
