The Isle of Man’s six richest people are worth a total of more than £4 billion, it’s been revealed.
The Sunday Times Rich List is out today, detailing the wealthiest people in Britain.
Six Manx residents make it onto this year’s list: John Whittaker, Jim Mellon, Trevor Hemmings, Mark Shuttleworth, George Moore and Leonard Polonsky and this year’s Manx list shows most of those on it have seen their fortunes grow over the past year.
Top of the list is Mr Whittaker, whose Peel Holdings company holds massive investments in the UK, making him the 31st richest person in Britain with £2.3 billion.
Next comes property magnate and financier Jim Mellon, whose personal wealth is said to be £800 million, some way above Trevor Hemming’s £610 million.
Next is South African software guru Mark Shuttleworth, with £160 million to his name, followed by George Moore and Leonard Polonsky with £95 million each.
Those compiling the list says it’s based on land, property, assets such as art and racehorses, and shares in quoted companies – but doesn’t include bank accounts.
