Start of Braddan Bridge roadworks today

Traffic management systems in place

Major resurfacing work is starting on Braddan Bridge today.

Work will be carried out on the Peel to Douglas Road from the junction with Braddan Road to the junction with Saddle Road.

Two different traffic management systems will be in place – one will operate on weekdays and the other at the weekend.

On weekdays a one-way system will run along the section of Peel Road, past Douglas Rugby Club, while diversion signs will take motorists leaving Douglas along Saddle Road to Peel Road.

The work will be done in phases until the end of the month.

It's hoped the approach taken will help mitigate the impact on hospital service users, commuters, school buses and business.

The Department of Infrastructure says staff will be on site seven days a week until the project is complete; access to Noble’s Hospital will be maintained at all times.

Isle of Man Transport says bus diversions will be in place, once the one-way system comes into force from 9am.

"Buses travelling from Quarterbridge towards Braddan School or Union Mills divert via New Castletown Road and Saddle Road."

"The AM Service 53 commences at Ashlar Drive at 0811 (picking up at Braddan Church at 0808 if required).

"Buses travelling towards Douglas past Douglas Rugby Club are not affected.

"The Service 21H departures from Nobles Hospital at 0626, 0726, 1926, 2026, 2126 & 2224 divert via Strang Road and Snugborough to Vicarage Road."
