Teenager found guilty of Groves Road stabbing

19-year-old will be sentenced in October

A teenager from Douglas will be sentenced next month after being found guilty of stabbing another man.

Callum Kelly, of Spring Valley Road, was convicted following a trial at the Court of General Gaol Delivery which started on Monday (4 September).

The 19-year-old had denied wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm but a jury of seven returned a unanimous verdict.

This morning – the four women and three men – re-listened to a 999-call made after the incident at around 2.30am on 13 July last year and re-watched a video showing the incident taking place on Groves Road.

Kelly had stabbed the man, who was also 17 at the time, in the stomach leaving him with what police had described at the time as a ‘puncture wound’.

A social enquiry report has been requested before Kelly is sentenced on 9 October; bail was granted with Deemster Cook telling him: “You have been convicted of an extremely serious offence.”

Update: At Douglas Courthouse on 9 October sentencing was postponed until 27 October.
