Three Manxmen on New Year Honours list

Three Manxmen have been recognised in the Queen's New Year Honours list.

President of Tynwald Noel Cringle has got an OBE for public service in the Isle of Man.

He says it's a great honour, but thinks what he's received recognition for is just something he's always done: (audio attached)

Peter Geddes and John Thornley will pick up MBEs for their services to Industrial Heritage and Education in the Isle of Man respectively.

Mr Geddes is well known as Chairman of the Laxey Mines Research Group.

Mr Thornley recently retired from his post as the Department of Education's ICT Advisor after 20 years.

Meanwhile the outgoing Chief Constable of the Isle of Man Constabulary, Mike Culverhouse, has been awarded a Queen's Police Medal.

Mr Culverhouse will retire from the post at the end of 2007 after eight years at the helm, having been signed off sick since August.
