Transparency onus on UK govt

Manx government adopting responsible measures

An Island charity has called on the UK government to do more to curb the kind of tax avoidance highlighted in the Paradise Papers.

The data leak sheds light on offshore investments amid claims of corruption and wrongdoing, hidden by secretive companies and trusts.

Local Christian Aid representative Louise Whitelegg acknowledges moves are being made locally to help the Island become a more responsible financial centre.

She thinks the UK government is in control of a large chunk of the problem which is ‘global and systemic’.
