Minute's silence held for 93-year-old Roy Gelling
The Captain of the Parish of Malew has died at the age of 93.
Roy Gelling had held the position since his appointment in 1996 and was a popular member of the local farming community.
Mr Gelling was also President of the Isle of Man Billiards and Snooker Association and a former Island champion - a minute's silence was held before Wednesday night's matches in his honour.
He once hosted Alex 'Hurricane' Higgins at his home during one of the star's visits to the Isle of Man.
Mr Gelling was also a huge supporter of the Southern 100 Races.
Acknowledging his contribution to the event, as a fan and a marshal, the Southern 100 Club said he never missed a meeting from 1955 to 2022 and helped the event gain the reputation it now has as 'the friendly races.
The club's offered its sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Mr Gelling also dabbled in local politics, serving two terms as a commissioner in Malew during the 1970s.
