'Twas the Tynwald before Christmas

However, final meetings of the House of Keys and Legislative Council are scheduled to take place next week

Tynwald members meet today for their final session before the Christmas break.

Thirteen questions are expected to be put to members of the Council of Ministers including one priority query on the government's plan to increase the population.

Arbory, Castletown and Malew's Jason Moorhouse is down to ask five of those.

Douglas North MHKs David Ashford and John Wannenburgh make up the majority of the remainder, with Garff's Daphne Caine making one contribution.

Topics up for discussion include what's being done to reconnect gas customers that were cut off by Isle of Man Energy before the supplier announced a temporary pause.

Pensions, restrictions on importing red meat to the Island, Wright's Pit East and North, and a replacement Southern Community Swimming Pool are among the others.

Daphne Caine has withdrawn her motion which sought to annul the planning approval for the continued operation of Wright's Pit North, but adds she remains 'extremely concerned' about the appropriateness of the site.

Treasury Minister Alex Allinson is expected to make a statement on 'tax strategy', followed by the Chair of the Select Committee issuing a statement on 'built heritage'.

Manx Radio will be broadcasting the proceedings on its DAB and AM frequencies or online.
