Tynwald back after summer break

Packed agenda for members

Tynwald is back in session this morning, for the first time since the summer recess.

A hefty order of business faces the Island's politicians, who are sitting from 10.30am.

Three months away from parliament means a lengthy reconvention for the new administration, who officially begin their second term in earnest today.

A sum of 49 miscellaneous documents, 25 reports, 37 written and 31 spoken questions are on the agenda, as well as a bevy of other motions.

Among the perennial issues of the day: pensions, pay caps, work permits, prescription charges, gas prices.

Members will also consider the results of investigations into children's social services, the parole system, and the Isle of Man's first ever living wage.

Paying off Manx Utilities' debt is up for discussion, and the Lisvane Report on reforming some of Tynwald's traditional functions - a thorn in the side for some members - will return to the court for what is sure to be a full debate.

Proceedings from the sitting will be broadcast in full on Manx Radio's AM1368 frequency, via smartphone apps and online at manxradio.com.
