Tynwald committee looks to extend remit

First report to be received this week

A select committee looking at the functions of the Island's parliament has produced its first report, just one month after being appointed.

This week, Tynwald members will be asked to receive the report and approve the committee's authority to consider a number of issues.

These are: whether MLCs should be able to vote in the election of the chief minister; whether the Lord Bishop should retain his vote; and whether sitting MHKs should be eligible for nominations for the Legislative Council.

The chairman of the committee is Speaker of the House of Keys Juan Watterson:
