Tynwald faces Lisvane report

Crucial parliamentary session to begin

Improving the way the Manx government functions forms the bulk of today's Tynwald agenda.

There are 11 recommendations up for debate, including limiting departmental positions to one member each and changing the way the Chief Minister is elected.

It follows a far-reaching review authored by Lord Robert Lisvane.

Manx politicians will be at the centre of a debate on what could be the biggest reform of Tynwald in recent history.

The long-awaited Lisvane report will see members discuss many functions of parliament - from the role of the Bishop, politicians' pay and even the way members of Tynwald are trained.

That aside, ministers will also face their monthly questioning from fellow MHKs.

The environment minister will be pressed on his progress in addressing climate change.

North Douglas member Ralph Peake wants to know whether there's been any movement in advancing the Climate Change Mitigation Strategy.

His constituency colleague, David Ashford, is also set to ask four of the 15 questions tabled for oral answer.

They include queries for the health minister about improving orthodontic cover for young children.

There are four more questions for written answer - as well as a number of other items of business - but it is expected the Lisvane report will dominate proceedings.

You can hear live coverage of the sitting on Manx Radio's AM1368 frequency, online at manxradio.com or via the Manx Radio smartphone apps.
