Urgent warning after two 'near fatal' heroin overdoses

Police and ambulance crews save lives on Monday evening

Police and Manx Care have issued an urgent warning after attending two near fatal heroin overdoses last night (Monday, 15 April).

They say anyone who has recently taken the drug should seek urgent medical advice from Noble's Hospital.

Also, if you've recently bought the drug and have not taken it, you're strongly advised to dispose of it 'appropriately and safely'.

A message from the Isle of Man Constabulary says both persons who overdosed yesterday evening survived after medical intervention by ambulance and police.

If you suspect someone has overdosed, you're urged to call 999 immediately.

Addiction charity Motiv8 shared this advice, following the police warning: "Don’t take heroin alone and please share this information with others so that we can make sure this potentially life saving message gets out across the island."

"Motiv8 are available from 9am until 5pm if you would like to talk confidentially with one of our team. The number is free to call and it’s 0808 1624 627.

"We are not an emergency service, in the event of an emergency such as an overdose it’s 999.

"If you carry Naloxone, make sure you have it with you and if you think someone you are with has taken an overdose administer it immediately, and call 999.

"Naloxone is a life saving drug in an opioid overdose situation and you can get a free kit from us, just drop us a DM or call freephone 0808 1624 627 and we can arrange for you to come in."
