Westmoreland village scheme goes before planners

Plans based on 20 minute concept

Detailed plans have been submitted in respect of the proposed Westmoreland village development in Douglas.

The Manx Development Corporation is seeking to regenerate the area by building 133 homes, 20,000 sq feet of office space and four retail units.

The development represents one of the largest projects to take place in central Douglas for some time.

The plans are based on the 20 minute neighbourhood concept, whereby resident's everyday needs can be met locally within a ten-minute return journey from home by walking, cycling or local transport.

The MDC says sustainability is at the heart of the concept using passive design principles, which use the design of the buildings to minimise energy consumption.

The iconic Crookall House building within the development site will be re-configured to provide office space.
