Thomas criticises new legislation
An MHK fears gas regulation is now in a worse place than it was before after new laws restricting the supplier's ability to cut off a customer were fast tracked through the House of Keys and Legislative Council in a single day.
The Gas Regulation Amendment Bill, moved by Kate Lord-Brennan, will now go to the UK Ministry of Justice to be assessed before Royal Assent is granted.
But not every MHK was on board with the move.
Douglas Central MHK Chris Thomas attempted to move an amendment to the bill which ultimately failed.
Speaking to Manx Radio after the debate, Mr Thomas was insistent the legislation was rushed, as there are too many unknowns in play:
After the lengthy debate in the House of Keys, Minister Lord-Brennan told Manx Radio the legislation was to simply act as a back-stop to protect vulnerable Island customers.
But she insisted it is still Isle of Man Energy's responsibility to fix any billing or administrative issues they may have:
