Women's March planned for the Island

Event aimed at unifying communities

A women's march is set to take place this Sunday (21 Jan).

It's been organised to highlight issues of inequality facing women, and celebrate their role in society.

Following the march there's a reception at Noa Bakehouse with various guest speakers.

Suffrage was extended to women here in 1881, making the Island the first country in the world to allow people of both genders to vote in elections, as long as they owned property.

Those who take part in the march are being encouraged to wear old suffragette colours of purple and green.

One of the organisers is Christine Cowley, who says the march is open to all.

Anyone interested in going on the march should be at the war memorial on Douglas promenade at 3pm.
