Work to improve railway safety ongoing

DoI chief officer says changes are being made but eliminating all risks is impossible

Work to improve safety on the Island's heritage railways is ongoing, but it's not possible to eliminate every risk according to the chief officer of the Department of Infrastructure.

A report published earlier this year into an incident involving a tram on the Manx Electric Railway made six recommendations to reduce future risk.

Emily Curphey confirmed progress has been made, but there's more to be done, particularly around the reporting of near misses.

However, she says some risk is to be expected:
