Darts: IoM's pride at WDF World Cup performances

Team events round off campaign in Denmark

The Isle of Man Darts Organisation (IOMDO) has praised how 'brilliantly' this year's Island team performed at the recent 2023 WDF World Cup in Denmark.

Ten players - five men and five women - represented the Manx flag at the tournament in Esbjerg which concluded on Saturday (30 September) with the team events rounding off the campaign.

The men's squad began with a challenging 9-1 defeat to Norway before a much closer contest against Hungary in which the Isle of Man went down to a narrow 9-6 defeat.

Elsewhere, the ladies team showed their quality in numerous spells in a tough group - their team event started with a closely-contested 9-6 loss against Latvia before heavy defeats to high-level opposition in Wales and Japan (9-0 and 9-2 respectively).

The women's side had a brilliant start against the hosts, Denmark taking a 4-1 lead before the Danes rallied back to eventually win the tie 9-5.

The IOMDO says whilst the teams didn't make it out of their respective group stages they can be 'very proud of their efforts'.
