Football: New sponsor announced for Hospital Cup

Company to support competition for next three years

The Isle of Man Football Association (IOMFA) has confirmed a new long-term sponsor for one of its cup competitions.

It's been announced that Manx Quality Sheds will be the sponsor of the Hospital Cup for the next three years.

The tournament takes place towards the end of each season and features all teams from the Canada Life Men's Premier League and DPS Ltd. Division 2.

Karl Gartland, co-owner of Manx Quality Sheds, says having been involved in Manx football as a player for many years this is 'a fantastic opportunity to put something back into the local game in a different way.'

First presented to IOMFA in 1921 by Noble's General Hospital, 75 per cent of the net final gate money was donated to the hospital and was considered an important fundraiser for the facility as no national health service was in place at the time.

The Hospital Cup ran as a knockout format until 1951 before changing to become the Division 2 Knockout Cup.

Twelve years later it reverted back to being a knockout competition open to all clubs - the FA still donates a percentage of the final gate receipts to a local charity.
