Dunn and Roberts help ten-man westerners to victory

Peel AFC have been crowned the winners of the 2024 Cowell Cup after a 2-1 win over Corinthians at The Bowl on Thursday night (9 May).

This year's final showdown for the Under-21 competition saw two new sides battling it out after previous winners Rushen United and 2023 finalists Onchan were knocked out in the earlier stages of the tournament.

It was the westerners who opened the scoring shortly after the half-hour mark as Ellis Dunn slotted home from a cut back from Tomas Brown to lead at the break.

Within one minute of the restart, Peel doubled their advantage, this time with Lewie Roberts converting a strike past Corinthians goalkeeper, Jack Corran.

But with 14 minutes remaining, Corinthians gave themselves a lifeline when as a Josh Cain cross over the Peel defence found Deaglan Blake who one-on-one with Peel stopper, Ryan Tate, placed the ball home.

As Corinthians piled forward in the closing minutes there was late drama as Peel were reduced to ten men in second-half stoppage time as Brown recevied a straight red card for a high tackle on Cain.

But the leaders would hold out to take the silverware, adding to the club's success already this season after their women's side claimed both the women's league title and women's FA Cup.

Elsewhere, Peel's senior men's side remain in contention to defend their Canada Life Men's Premier League title.
