GOLF: Peel Golf Club raises £3,767 for Special Olympics IOM

Winter comps begin

Peel Golf Club has raised more than £3000 for Special Olympics Isle of Man.

Winter competitions are now in full swing, the first of which was 14-hole foursomes played in extremely favourable conditions albeit a little frosty on the day making the putting tricky.

Romping home with 30 points were Tracy Nolan and Joyce Marr followed by Sally Morgan-Moodie and Heather Beckett with 26 in second and third were Linda Keegan and Gillian Pearson with 25 on a count-back from Diane Kinrade and Lisa Costain also with 25.

The competition was followed by the Annual Meeting of the women's section and, as one of her last duties for 2023, the outgoing Lady Captain, Tracy Nolan, presented multiple cheques on behalf of the lady members for funds raised to her chosen charities.

Her theme during her year of office was that success is best when shared.

With that in mind, a cheque for £3,767 was presented to Linda Lambie of Special Olympics IOM who says the money to give all their athletes the chance to compete at another level especially off-Island.

There was a further cheque for £463 presented to the Western branch of IOM Anti-Cancer raised at the Judith Carr 3BBB which together with a cheque for £330 donated them earlier in the year brought their total to £793.

Having raised £4,560 during the year Nolan was very happy to hand over the baton to the incoming Captain for 2024 Maree Bashforth.
