Hockey: Vikings beat Valkyrs to blow prem title race open

Both now level on points at league summit

Valkyrs A suffered their first defeat of the Mixed Premier League season last night (31 October) as they went down 3-2 to nearest challengers Vikings A.

Goals from Scott Mason, Will Bridson and Kim Carney were enough to hand Vikings victory with their western opponents finding the net through Luis Novo Smith and Ollie Webster.

The result means Vikings A now move level with Valkyrs A at the top of the premier league standings with both on 12 points with Vikings ahead on goal difference and head-to-head.

Tuesday evening's clash was one of the two premier league matches postponed from the weekend due to the Isle of Man Men's England Hockey Tier 2 Knockout Championship match against Timperley on Saturday (28 October).

The other rearranged top flight tie - Castletown Celts against reigning champions Bacchas A - takes place at 8.30pm tonight (1 November) at the NSC in Douglas.
