Jiu-jitsu: Gracie Barra take largest ever medal haul in Liverpool

34 individual medals and two team trophies secured at one-day event

Manx jiu-jitsu club Gracie Barra Isle of Man took their largest ever medal haul in a single event during their latest competition in the UK.

Both senior and junior competitors were fielded by Gracie Barra for the All Stars BJJ Liverpool Pro event which took place last Saturday (30 June).

Over the course of the one-day event, Gracie Barra went on to secure 13 gold medals, 10 silver medals and 11 bronze medals.

Among the individual performances, Gracie Barra coach and double British Champion, Mark Franklin, took gold in the Gi and Nogi disciplines despite battling a recent illness.

Elsewhere, Jayden Mahey also took top spot in his Gi and Nogi competitions whilst there was also double gold for junior competitor, Alan Greenhalgh.

Also among the medals in the junior section were Hanako Henson and Amy Gardner who ended up facing off against each other in the final of the same division, Henson would go on to win the top prize with Gardner claiming silver.

Along with the individual success, Gracie Barra's collective efforts at the event meant they took two team trophies as well, claiming first place for the Under-18's category and third place in the Over-18's category.

Their medal tally in Liverpool takes their total medal count up to almost 100 for 2023 so far.
