Manx snowboarder part of world record-breaking skiing event

Nearly 3,600 people take part in historic torch-lit descent

A Manx Olympic snowboarder has been part of history this week as a new skiing world record was set in Europe last night (22 February).

Zoe Gillings-Brier was one of thousands who made the journey to Les Arcs 1800 in France in an attempt to break the world record for the highest number of skiers in a torch-lit descent.

Those involved went on to smash the record with 3,589 taking part - the previous best was 2,887 set in 2016 by the same Les Arcs resort.

Participants began the event at 5pm local time with an ascent to the top of TS Vagere before the world record attempt began at around 6.30pm.

Until last night, several resorts in Austria, France, and Italy had made attempts to break the record but without success.
