Manx swimmer competing in Ice Swimming European Championships

Carole Laporte to take part in the 1km freestyle this afternoon

There's a Manx flag flying in Romania as Island resident Carole Laporte takes part in the International Ice Swimming Association's European Championships.

The St Ninian's High School teacher is representing the Isle of Man as a member of Team GB and will be competing in the 1km freestyle race this afternoon (Saturday 3 February).

The International Ice Swimming Association's 1st European Championship has been held in Oradea from 1 - 4 February.

It's classed as 'Ice Swimming' when the water temperature is below 5°C.

'Thanks to all my friends who I've been training with in the Isle of Man. It's been a team adventure.' - Carole Laporte.

Carole has been speaking to Manx Radio about her journey to the championships:

The 1000m Freestyle Fastest Women's Heat gets underway at 3:30pm GMT.
In 2021, Carole made the headlines after spending 13 consecutive days swimming around the Isle of Arran in Scotland.
