Peel resident Andrew Pitt has claimed the World Supersport Championship with one round to spare.
The Australian won at Magny Cours yesterday, giving him an unassailable lead over his Hanspree Honda team-mate Jonathan Rea at the top of the standings.
Rea led the race early on but had dropped back to third when on lap 10 Robin Harms made an effort to pass Brock Parkes at the hairpin, clipping Rea's back wheel in the process.
They both remounted but the incident put paid to any chance Rea had of beating Pitt to the championship.
Pitt had been there or thereabouts for much of the race and eventually managed to stretch out a slight lead over Barry Veneman to take the chequered flag by 1.25 seconds.
