Promotion favourites make winning starts

Last-gasp Marown win thriller

Many of the sides tipped to challenge for promotion in JCK Division Two made winning starts on Saturday.

Castletown and Foxdale both won 6-0 away from home.

Goals from Jamie Cadwallader (three), new signing Ross Mulligan (two) and Connor Garrett fired Town to success at Gymns in Tromode.

Foxdale did the same at Douglas and District, courtesy of Jay Chatwood (three), Liam Cannon (two) and Steve Betteridge.

Ramsey Youth Centre put four past Pulrose United without reply, thanks to doubles from Tony Boyle and Lewis Moran.

The game of the day came at Garey Mooar as a late, late show fired Marown to a 4-3 victory at Union Mills.

Marown led 2-0 at the break through Cameron Avery and Joey Rothwell and looked on course for three points.

However, Mills hit back and overturned the deficit to lead with goals from Luke Booth (two) and what looked likely to be the winner from Chris Kelly.

That’s how it stayed until the first minute of stoppage time when Kevin Druggan levelled.

The start of a mad three minutes then saw home player James Lace sent off for dissent before Robert Thorne grabbed a winner.

A fine second half from Malew saw them record a comprehensive victory.

After the sides were level at 1-1 at the break, Malew turned on the form to run out 6-1 winners at home to Governor’s Athletic.

Kieran Krypner (two), Dan McLaughlin and Dean Kinley (three) were the men on target.

Ayre United marked their return to Division Two with a 3-1 success at Michael United - their first league victory in 16 months.

Elliot Cureton, Phil Quayle and Chris Murdoch were on target for the Tangerines with new signing Frazer Campbell scoring for the hosts.
