Rugby: Douglas undone at Crewe & Nantwich

Ramsey impress during round-robin friendly series

Report by Dave Christian:

Douglas’ run against the top teams ended with a 39-18 defeat away at Crewe & Nantwich in Regional 2 North West.

Guy Barrons and Liam Kirkpatrick both crossed for Douglas tries with Luca Simmons converting one and adding two penalties.

Respite comes for Douglas next Saturday with a week off before Winnington Park’s visit to Port-e-Chee on 2 December for what should be an eminently winnable fixture.

Ramsey come out on top at Ballafletcher

The games were only friendlies and count for little however what bragging rights there were, headed over the mountain to Ramsey who beat Vagabonds 12-0 and Southern Nomads 24-14 - Vagas won the third game 7-0 as they took on Nomads.

Tries from Brandon Atchison and Nathan Robson secured the Ramsey win against Vagas with Atchison adding a conversion. Vaga’s veteran Daryn Thompson scored the only try in the Vagas v Nomads game with Cam Findlay converting.

In the final game Ramsey led early on with a Brandon Atchison try. Rob Craine equalised for Nomads and Mark Young’s conversion gave them the lead 7-5 which they held till the final ten minutes.

Two quick Ramsey scores from Nathan Robson and that man Atchison who converted both saw Ramsey 19-7 ahead. Django Kinley pulled one back for Nomads close to the end and Young’s conversion left it a five point game. Josh Corteen sealed it for Ramsey with a try in the final play of the game.
