RUGBY: Western Vikings defeat Castletown in 'real scrap' of a match

Western Vikings ran out 41-36 winners in a real scrap with Castletown at Poulsom Park in the Ravenscroft Manx Shield at the weekend with Nikki Timmins the hero, grabbing the winner in the final two minutes.

Kyle Martin and Gavin Turnbull bagged two each for Castletown with Regan Williams and Alex Harrison crossing to make it six in total with Martin converting three.

Vikings’ Ed Knight ran in three at the other end, there was two for Charlie Henthorn, and also a penalty try, with Ryan Burke adding two conversions before Timmins delivered the coup de grace.

In the Ravenscroft Manx Shield holders Ramsey had a 50-14 win away at Southern Nomads to kick off their defence.

First half tries from Dan Richmond, Josh Corteen, Nathan Robson, Will Millsopp, Jake Richmond and Brandon Atchison plus three Atchison conversions gave Ramsey a 36-14 half time lead. 

A Harry Corrin double at the other end gave Nomads their points with George Collister converting both. 

In the second half the Richmonds both picked up their second of the game and Magnus Black also crossed and Atchison converted two.

Elsewhere, Douglas picked up another losing bonus point away at Altrincham Kersal in Regional 2 North West but were just pipped 25-20 in the race for the win.

Luke Hyland and Brett Pyke both went in for Douglas tries with Hyland converting both and adding two penalties. Sam McCord weighed in with a penalty too but it wasn’t quite enough.

And Vagabonds won away 37-10 at Chorley to keep up their push in Counties 4 ADM Lancs/Cheshire.

Vagas crossed the whitewash five times with Jon Ferguson, Matty Jones, Cam Findlay, Tom Gascoyne and Ross Pulman with Findlay running out top scorer after kicking a penalty and three conversions.
